In the medieval days, kings used a low table besides their chaises or lounges in order to place things on them as they relaxed. In those days, the concept of sitting at a dining table did not exist. Low tables made placing food or drinks on them very convenient. The same concept has evolved into the end table of today. You must have often taken the pleasure of lounging on your couch as you watch television. At times such as these, a table nearby comes very handy to place your can of coke. If you love to read a book or a newspaper as you lay back on your sofa, an end table is a perfect place to lay it down before you snooze off.
