An Accent Table Can Change the Focus of Your Room
Ever have the feeling that a particular room is just not quite right? That is may be missing something? Oftentimes the addition of an accent table will cure that feeling. Not only beautiful but also potentially functional these tables fit into awkward spaces or provide height where you want to place a floral arrangement.
There are several kinds of tables used to accent certain features of a room. End tables are most commonly used at the end of sofas particularly in corners where two sofas meet perpendicularly or where a chair is placed adjacent to a sofa.
Nesting tables is an accent table that can be used in multiple ways. In a living room you may use them to hold cascading floral arrangements whereas in the kitchen you may choose taller nesting tables to provide compact, but expandable counter space. Is there ever enough counter space in a kitchen? Not during the holidays! The best nesting tables in a kitchen have either butcher block tops or marble tops for rolling out dough and other sticky or messy items.
An accent table can liven or brighten any room. A small accent table next to a chair in the living room can store your knitting needles and yarn or other small creative project. It can be an almost sacred piece of furniture in your house. Whereas Moms rarely get a moment or square foot for privacy, somehow men and children instinctively know to stay away from the small accent table knowing it as Mom’s table. Even if they sit in Mom’s Chair, they will shy away from fiddling with Mom’s Table. Mom’s one haven for privacy!
If you have very modern or contemporary decor a petite accent table may be what you need to add just a touch of warmth without muting or mottling the style. It will help those visiting you feel more comfortable if they are not quite into contemporary furniture.
An accent table is also the way to change the focus of a room without replacing all of the furniture. The more standard uses are to place interesting vases and small collections that you love to see regularly on the surface. Since an accent table can vary in height from 12” to 36” it can be used as a riser for a tall plant, or a taller table may be used for a medium height plant to draw the eye closer to the ceiling. You may wish to draw a visitor’s eye up to feature a piece of art on the wall, spectacular curtain rods or your beautiful drapes.
Sofa tables are also considered accent tables and provide a space to feature larger collections most often of family photographs. This kid of accent table is particularly useful if you have a larger living room or family room area and people will be walking behind the sofa. If you want to discourage people walking behind the sofa, placing tall objects like a vase with dried flowers that rise a foot or two above the top of the sofa will give a visual barrier to those who would venture behind the sofa. This is particularly useful if you have your home office or bill pay station behind the sofa.
