Brilliant uses for a sofa table.

Have you considered using your sofa table in a place other than behind your sofa? The beauty of a table of this height is its natural use for other purposes. I have placed elegant and formal versions in Dining Rooms instead of using a buffet. The clients love the lightness and flexibility of the piece. This is even more useful if you find yourself regularly needing just a little extra space in the dining room either because you insert the leaves in the dining room table for an event and your room is overwhelmed with furniture and people, or because you plan to have an event with standing room only and you need as much open circulation around the main dining table. In both cases a sofa table is much easier to move into a hallway to function as a hallway console table than a comparable buffet would be.

The sofa table can look natural in many settings. The living room, dining room, bedroom and home office are the uses I employ most frequently. Instead of using a dressing table many of my clients choose a petite sofa table or console table. They are the perfect height for most women both for sitting and standing and they provide the extra space you want to lay things out for organizing your accessories purposes. 

In the office using two sofa tables perpendicular to each other creates an L-shaped desk, but scaled to a women needs. Whether I have my office downtown or in my home, I typically choose to use two sofa tables. Because the tables are not as wide as desks I am less likely to allow papers to accumulate which means I stay on top of the paperwork I need to do. The shallower depth also means I can reach everything on my desk while seated. If you have ever worked in a corporate environment and graduated to the “executive” desk, you know that they are cumbersome and not very functional. Quite frankly those desks were designed by large men for other large men. Until furniture is designed for women, we will be engulfed by these large pieces. At the very least consider booting the big desks and bring in a sofa table or two. Your productivity will shoot up, you will be more organized and your office will look twice as big. You will also look much more feminine which seems to bring a great deal of power to the women who use it wisely….

Last but certainly not least, the most natural and native state for a sofa table is in the living room as most of these tables are a little more formal, a little more elegant. While you can find a table in practically any style and wood, mahogany and oak are the most frequently found and are widely available. Mahogany style will on average be lighter and more elegant in appearance to the Oak which is typically cut a little heavier, sturdier. But plenty of glass, wrought iron and exciting works in high density plastics are available. Go shopping online and see what you can find. No room is complete without a sofa table.
