Fabulous, Functional, the Hall Console Table

The beauty of a hall console table is in the details. The right table will add beauty to your hall enhancing the atmosphere and decor while also providing a functional stopping spot for potential clutter items in your household.

A hall console table is brilliant in its intended design which is to serve as does a petite sofa table. They can be perfect places to show off your family treasures whether they be photos of your children, grandchildren and pets or the crystal figurine collection you have amassed during your international travels. It is a piece that can coordinate with any decor and can liven up a living room, den and even kitchen. The console table solves the dual nature common problem of where to draw a visitor’s eye and how to cover blank wall space.

For many homes, perhaps yours, a blank wall is not quite right for a picture to be hung, but also seems awkward without an object of some sort. Hallways are notorious for this problem. Most hallways are too focused on movement to be appropriate for many mounted pieces of art. A hall console table however bridges the gap between art object and hallway use. In the hall, the table can be used to set objects that need to be redirected in your house like the toys that need to be brought to the upstairs play room or the Chemistry book that needs to be brought to your daughter’s room.

If you have a hallway near your mudroom, a hall console table is the perfect solution for placing your purse, keys and the various things that we end up having in our hands as we come through the door. How did I end up with 3 packages, the mail pile, my daughter’s soccer ball, my purse and the bag from CVS? Who knows? But at least with our hall console table I can set them all down just as I enter the house. By having a central, primary stopping point I can come back to sort the pile after I slip out of my work gear. It gives me the control to manage my household on my terms.

The hall console table we have near the rear entrance to the house, where we come in from the garage is a very hearty mission style table made of oak. The hard wood has so far taken the beating of 2 dogs and 3 children. It has also been my haven for keeping cell phone chargers and extra sets of keys. If you are particularly adventurous, you can even find or modify your own hall console table to have the chargers arranged and plugged in with all the cords tucked out of the way. We modified our table by drilling two holes in the back of one drawer to accommodate the plus and cords.

One of the most active, functional home furnishings is the hall console table. In several shapes and sizes you can find one to meet your needs. Happy hunting!
